This is the magazine for my interview on my documentary, I was inspired by Men's Health magazine, particularly a double-page spread interview with Mark Ronson.
Critical Reflection
Critical Reflection – Joe Bain The most important aspect to documentaries is planning. Before I began producing anything I first put out a questionnaire which helped me find my best target audience for example my questionnaire was primarily answered by teenagers and pronominally males. The convention I have used which you see all throughout my documentary is interviews. Interviews are a powerful tool that, if utilised properly, is effective in a documentary's storytelling. When I was watching ‘Planet Earth (2006) I found that it was effective in having a voice-over while different shots were happening on the screen, I did utilise this technique in my documentary as I thought just having someone sit there for all my interviews would be dull for my target audience. At the start of my documentary, I use fast-paced clips with music over the top to draw the audience in my target audience. Preliminary Task Evaluation
Overall I would say my Preliminary Task went well this was the first time I had used a voice-over and montage element this led to a few challenges. Cutting the rushes precisely to the beat I found to be hard and frustrating. At the start there is one beat of the song that I missed and I aim to clear this up for my main task Right here at the 4-second mark the beat drops and I could not figure out how to sync the music up with the first shot without messing up the rest of them. I also found that the different volume levels needed took me by surprise I haven't really edited voiceovers before and found myself cutting and changing the volume of all the soundtracks quite a lot this was a lot of trial and error. Reaserch: analysis of documentary openings
i have chosen to mainly analyse BBC three documentaries because my documentary will be on the BBC thee channel. this first documentary I noticed that it started off with music and then went into a voice-over outlining the documentary and the title of the documentary did not appear until after the first 30 seconds of the introduction. I also looked at Wagspiracy the reason i chose Wagspiracy was because it used text that popped up and explained what people were going to see the text popped up like someone was typing it and also had the sound like someone was typing it i thought this style really fit the documentary a it is about texts between two women. i also liked this style i looked at a couple more but have decided that one of these openings will be how i introduce my documentary.
